A Very MoJo Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving has roots that date back to the Protestant Reformation in England and in most celebrations was thanks for the harvest of the previous year. While we still give thanks in today’s celebrations, the holiday has come to center more around family and all the things we’re grateful for, than the harvest. That said, let’s be honest, a lot of us show up for the turkey and cranberry and that falls into harvest, right?

Here at Mosquito Joe if we reflect back on the preceding “season,” we have so many things to be thankful for. We have 15 new locations that opened in 2013 and already over 10 confirmed to open for the 2014 season, with several more in the mix. As the MoJo family grows, we’re so excited to see all the amazing things our new franchisees are going to do in their communities. We made more families mosquito free this year than we ever have and are looking forward to even more of you heading back out into your yards for itch-free fun next year. That satisfaction in itself makes this the best Thanksgiving yet for us.

So while we’re giving thanks, we thank you. Our customers and franchisees are what make this company thrive and more importantly, what make it great. From our family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving. We hope it is full of family, laughter, turkey, and all the trimmings.

happy thanksgiving

Honoring Those Who Have Served: Happy Veteran’s Day

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in the First World War, then known as “the Great War.” Commemorated as Armistice Day beginning the following year, November 11th became a holiday in the United States in 1938. In the aftermath of World War II and the Korean War, Armistice Day became Veterans Day, a holiday dedicated to American veterans of all wars.

Being based out of Virginia Beach, VA, we are surrounded by those who are serving or have served in the military on a daily basis. Many of our customers are veterans and since we started franchising over past year, many of our franchisees are veterans. In fact, about one third of our new locations in 2013 were opened by veterans from various military branches. When someone joins the armed forces, they dedicate themselves to give back and protect the country they love. We take great pride in helping veterans find new purpose in giving back to their community by using the same skill set the military gave them to own their own business.  We certainly realize that keeping our neighborhoods mosquito free is on a much smaller scale than defending our country, but we’re honored to help them transition to not only civilian jobs, but going into business for themselves.

There are times when the words “Thank you” don’t seem big enough to encompass the gratitude we hold for people and their actions. Happy Veteran’s Day to all those who have served and continue to serve. You are in our thoughts today, on Veteran’s Day, and every day.

Why Franchising May Be For You

As the holiday season approaches (I know I’m not the only one seeing the decorations in the stores and TV commercials already) and soon after that the end of the year, many of us find ourselves reflecting on where we are in life. Maybe it’s the holiday cheer, or maybe it’s the thought of a fresh start in the new year, but around this time, many people resolve to find a more balanced life. Since our jobs have such a profound impact on our personal lives, it’s hard not to take stock on where you are in your career as the new year approaches.

If you have found yourself stuck in a rut, or in a job that doesn’t seem to fit your needs on either a professional or personal level, franchising could be the solution you’ve been looking for. Owning your own business can seem overwhelming and daunting – especially if you’ve worked in any typical office setting where you are responsible for one facet of the business, not all of them – but there are many things about franchising that could make owning your own business more of a fit for you than you thought.

Minimizing Risk

When you invest in a franchise business you are buying an established, tested, and proven business model. This keeps you from making the mistakes commonly seen in startup businesses. Joining a proven system prevents you from reinventing the wheel and offers you the benefits of an established brand,  the chance to start up quickly and the support of a corporate team – which takes us to our next reason…

Be in Business for Yourself, Not By Yourself

When you buy a franchise you are never alone. You are part of an established brand and a growing family, with ongoing support and training from the franchisor.  Joining a franchise system gives you the opportunity to pick up the phone at any time and ask questions to the franchisor or even to other franchisees. You are purchasing experience and expertise, allowing you to focus on your business’ growth, sustainability, and success.

Set Yourself Up for Success

Business ownership offers you the opportunity to take control of your career, finances, schedule and future. You are your own boss. Work hard for yourself and you’ll reap the benefits, giving you the ultimate return on your investment.
