A Veteran’s Day Salute

Veteran’s Day is a chance for us to honor the bravery and service for U.S. service members, past and Family Shotpresent. At the Mosquito Joe corporate office in Virginia Beach, we’re privileged to be right down the street from the largest Naval Base in the world, which puts us in some pretty amazing company in our community. It is such a privilege to live among many of those who have given so much for our country. When someone joins the armed forces, they dedicate themselves to protect the community they love. Since we started franchising in 2013 we’ve taken great pride in being a company that can offer veterans an option to not only own their own business, but to utilize the skills the military gave them. For the second year, we were mentioned in the Franchise Business Review’s Top Franchises for Veterans report.

When we stopped to reflect on living among so many veterans, we realized we worked among them too! Pictured to the right with his wife Melissa, and kids Connor and Ruby after returning from a deployment aboard the USS Eisenhower in 2009 is Captain Brian Garrison. Brian retired in 2012 after serving over twenty years in the U.S. Navy and now serves as our Chief Operating Officer. Our own GI Joe was even featured in this month’s Entrepreneur Magazine in an article titled Call of Duty. It’s a great article about how military skills transition well to owning a franchise. He’s the perfect guy to head up our operations team, yes? We’re so glad he’s on the Mosquito Joe team and immensely grateful for his service.

Also a fun fact about veterans and the corporate office? We’ve got our own unofficial spouse’s club! Check out the photos below to see how many of our gals are married to active duty and retired members of the armed forces.

Meet a Joe: David Barrett

*Occasionally we like to provide a blog post that will help you get to know Joe. From our technicians to our corporate staff to our hardworking franchisees – we think our company is full of people you ought to know!**

This week we’d like to introduce you to the newest member of our corporate team, David Barrett.  David attended Hampden-Sydney College and worked at a marketing agency after graduating in 2013.  A Virginia Beach native, David joins Mosquito Joe as a financial analyst.  He will be assisting our Financial Director (Joe Money) in accounting, budget management, vendor relationships, and franchisee support.  We are so excited to have David on our team, and even more excited that we have someone to do all of the math!

Here are a few more fun facts about David we’ve learned over the last few weeks:

How do you like to spend your time outdoors?

The majority of my outdoor time is spent with my dog, Emma. She is my personal trainer and travel guide because she is full of energy and always hungry to explore exotic new locations. When I’m not with Emma, chances are you can find me on a tennis court or trying to get back into running shape.

How attractive are you to mosquitoes?

On a 1 to 5 scale of mosquito attractiveness, I’d say I’m a 3. My survival strategy is to find a 4 or a 5 to stand next to at all times when outdoors.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

As an aspiring collector of watches, I like to silently judge people based on what they have on their wrists. But if you are asking my friends and family, they will likely tell you that my guilty pleasure is subjecting them to hours of Dave Matthews Band concerts on YouTube.

What is your favorite Mosquito Joe tagline and why?

My favorite tagline is “Outside is fun again.” It reminds me how we should all spend more quality time outside. Too often we lock ourselves inside watching hours of the latest TV show or cat videos. I’m absolutely guilty of this. It’s time we take back the outdoors and have some fun!

Welcome to the MoJo family, David!
