Celebrating Dad This Father’s Day

Father’s Day is coming up this weekend, and you know what that means. It’s is definitely time to start brainstorming and planning for the perfect celebration. Whether you spend the day with immediate family only or have a blowout with all the neighbors, there are so many different ways to bond with dad. While showing him how much he’s appreciated for all he does, don’t forget to make it fun for everyone!

Here are a few ideas to make this Sunday extra special:

  1. Wake up early to cook breakfast and make coffee. Bring it to dad in bed. Once he’s settled, bring him his gifts. Read cards and watch him open presents while he enjoys breakfast.
  2. Have the family over for a cookout. Let the grill master relax while you take over for a change. Just don’t burn anything!
  3. Build a backyard bonfire when the sun goes down. This is the perfect way to spend quality time with family towards the end of the day. Bring everyone outside to roast marshmallows and tell stories.
  4. Go to the movies as a family. This time, let dad pick the show and the snacks.
  5. Go to a local campground or pitch a tent in the backyard. Bring plenty of snacks, sleeping bags, and kick back with dad. This will make for memories that’ll last a lifetime.
  6. Take to the fairway! There is a good chance your dad enjoys playing an occasional 18 holes. Even if you’re not a golfer, go along with him and give it your best shot. I promise you’ll have fun, and dad will be thankful you participated in one of his favorite activities.
  7. Have a picnic in a local park. Make all of dad’s favorites, pack a cooler, and surprise him by taking him out to enjoy it all with the family. Eat, laugh, reminisce, chat, and watch the sunset together. Don’t forget to capture the moment!
  8. If you have a pool, invite your dad’s best friends and their families over for a pool party. The sun is getting hotter by the day, so why not keep cool with dad on his?!
  9. Go for a family hike. Find a local nature trail and spend the morning getting in your daily exercise family style!
  10. Host a neighborhood barbecue. Let the neighborhood families come over to celebrate all the dads and munch on tasty treats. Ease the stress of planning a party by making it a pot luck!
  11. Is dad a history buff? Go to a local museum to learn a thing or two. An educational experience is never a bad idea!

We wish all the dads out there a very Happy Father’s Day! Thank you for all that you do. Tailoring Your Yard for a Swat Free Summer

Here at Mosquito Joe, we’re pet owners, moms, dads, homeowners and outdoor lovers just like you. We understand the thought process that surrounds bringing a new product into your environment because at some point we’ve all been there as well. Sometimes people who hear about us have a lot of questions because the service just seems too simple to be true, or they wonder why it hasn’t been around longer to help get rid of mosquitoes. One of the most common questions we get about our services is whether or not the products we use are safe. We wanted to provide some information to help you understand the various products we use so you can feel confident that you’re doing the right thing to protect family and friends from mosquitoes, fleas and ticks.

Barrier Spray Treatment

Our main barrier treatment product is a synthetic form of pyrethrins called pyrethroids. Pyrethrins are the natural byproduct of the Chrysanthemum flower. Synthetic pyrethroids have a similar chemical structure as the pyrethrins, and are used in numerous commercial products such as household insecticides, pet shampoos and sprays, and even lice shampoos – so you are probably already using it if you’re a pet owner.

We spray this product on shrubs, low-lying trees, your foundation, mulch beds, etc. Generally we don’t spray your grass, unless you’re having a specific issue with fleas. All chemicals we use are registered with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). You, your kids, and your pets can be outside again resuming normal activities as soon as the treatment has had a chance to dry, typically about 30-45 minutes, without the annoyance of mosquitoes.

All-Natural Treatment

For those who prefer all-natural options, we also have products made with rosemary and peppermint oils or concentrated garlic. These products provide knockdown with residual mosquito control, or in the case of garlic, repellency. They can be used around water and do not affect birds, fish, dogs, cats or other animals. The all-natural garlic option provides 14 days of protection with each treatment.

Not Your Average Joe

We pride ourselves on standing out from the rest when it comes to mosquito control. Above all else, trust that each treatment is tailored to your property for maximum effect. It may even include a combination of both synthetic and all-natural treatments. For example, a majority of your shrubs may be sprayed with our standard barrier treatment, while vegetable gardens, ponds and pollinating plants with our all-natural product. A certified technician, trained and knowledgeable in the treatments being applied and the pests they’re targeting, will be applying your treatment and available for any questions.

June is National Pest Control Month

If you take one look at our website, it’s pretty easy to see we are passionate about getting rid of mosquitoes, fleas and ticks. Nothing makes us happier than getting you back outside and enjoying your yard. Whether that’s grilling, gardening, playing ball with your dog, or swimming in your backyard pool, there are plenty of activities that can keep you entertained and enjoying life during warmer weather. We talk often about the nuisance mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks are…but did you know Mosquito Joe’s barrier spray services take care of other insects and outdoor pests that can wreak havoc on your outdoor fun? Since June is National Pest Control Month, we thought we’d take the time to tell you a little bit about some other flying fun-suckers we can help eliminate.

Earwigs

The earwig (no, not a hairpiece for your ears) is one insect can make a mess of your garden. Earwigs are mostly nocturnal and often hide during the day. They feed on a wide variety of insects and plants, so damage to foliage, flowers, and various crops is commonly blamed on this oddly named bug.

Stinkbug

If you’re in certain areas of the U.S. (Virginia, Maryland and Delaware), the stinkbug may be something you’re well aware of, but not because you want to be. Sometimes known as shield bugs because of their distinctive shape, they are commonly referred to as stink bugs because they release a smelly odor when chased, picked up or stepped on. Many people compare the smell to smelly feet. Generally, stinkbugs prefer to be outside. They reproduce and eat outdoors, so they won’t try to move inside until it starts to get cold. But if you see them on the outside of your house, let your Mosquito Joe technician know!

Flies & Centipedes

I know when I’m entertaining in my backyard and uncover the food, the sight of flies can drive me crazy. Even worse was the time spent standing by the table fanning them away. And did you know there are over 8,000 species of centipedes? Some are known to have very painful bites that can cause severe swelling, chills, and fever.

Despite these obnoxious and gross facts, there is a silver lining. These are all insects that you can keep out of your yard using Mosquito Joe barrier spray treatments. That’s right folks, we don’t just kill mosquitoes, fleas and ticks, we take care of other pests that can ruin your garden, leave you with painful bites, and send you running indoors. Bedbugs, clover mites, millipedes, oh my! Pick up the phone and call your local Mosquito Joe today to find out how we can help solve your creepy critter problems.
