With all of the excitement buzzing about the upcoming Halloween party at Mosquito Joe’s Corporate headquarters, we thought we’d share some of our most helpful tips to make sure your spooky outdoor shindig is complete from start to finish.

Keeping your Halloween party upbeat and entertaining is important. You don’t want your guests departing too early or dozing off on the sofa, right? Keep them occupied with thrilling tunes and ghoulish games in an atmosphere decorated perfectly for the occasion.

This may be one of the most important aspects of the party, so don’t wait until the last minute or skimp out on the little details. There are many handmade décor options available or you can find affordable disposable options at local dollar stores and party supply stores. Pick a theme and have fun turning your house into a pumpkin paradise or witchy wonderland.

With many premade Halloween playlists available at little to no cost, you can keep the tempo upbeat and fun. Use music platforms such as Spotify or Pandora to stream, download or create your very own party playlist.

Games and activities:
Entertain your guests with some party games or competitive activities. Whether you keep it simple with bobbing for apples or have some fun with a witch hat ring toss, there are tons of party games and activities that you can incorporate into your Halloween bash. Snacks and refreshments:
Now that you’ve decorated your haunted house, designed your bewitching costume and finalized the fun details, let’s get to the good stuff – the food. Whether you’re providing the basics and allowing guests to bring a dish to contribute or laying out the entire spread yourself, don’t let your party guests leave hungry. Make sure you offer a variety of savory, sweet and thirst-quenching options. Also try to accommodate guest with food allergies or dietary restrictions so there are only treats, no tricks. There are many Halloween themed food and drink recipes and ideas online, so get creative and have fun! (Parenting tip: Keep the kids occupied for a few hours by letting them help you prepare some of the easy-to-make treats.)

Throwing your own Halloween party this year or attending one with your friends and family? Send us some photos of your creative costumes or dreary desserts – we’d love to see what you come up with!

Don’t be the itchy house on the block this year! Make sure your trick-or-treaters aren’t leaving your yard with more than candy in their bag. Contact your local Mosquito Joe to have your yard treated for mosquitoes, ticks and fleas before the big night. Trust us, your neighborhood will thank you later.

World Mosquito Day | MoJo Bites Back

Each year, August 20th recognizes British doctor Sir Ronald Ross’ discovery that the female Anopheles mosquito transmits malaria between humans. World Mosquito Day commemorates finding the link that has helped scientists understand the disease and the role mosquitoes play in its transmission. Mosquitoes are responsible for nearly 830,000 deaths each year; of those deaths, over half are caused by malaria.

Because we know that mosquitoes are more than just backyard pests, Mosquito Joe wants to take this opportunity to celebrate the scientific findings that have helped treat and make strides toward preventing vector-borne illnesses, as well as look to the future of curing and eliminating malaria. To support us in our mission, consider donating to our MoJo Bites Back campaign as we partner with Nothing But Nets, a grassroots effort to raise funds for malaria and bring awareness to malaria-stricken areas.

Between our campaigns, MoJo Bites Back and Beat the Bloodsuckers, Mosquito Joe has raised $34,322, which translates to 3,400 bed nets donated to families in sub-Saharan Africa!

You can help us provide peace of mind for one of the nearly 300 million people in sub-Saharan Africa who still lack access to insecticide-treated bed nets. Join us as we bite back against malaria this World Mosquito Day, and every day! Learn more about the malaria epidemic and the great efforts set forth by Nothing But Nets here and help us reach our goal by donating to our MoJo Bites Back campaign today!

Memorial Day BBQ Tips

We are really looking forward to Memorial Day this year, and we’re sure you are too. This past winter was rough for a lot of people. Blizzards blanketed parts of the country in feet of snow for weeks and freak storms kept schools and businesses closed for just as long. But Memorial Day is a chance to forget about all of our winter troubles and celebrate the coming of summer!

Memorial Day celebrations range from family to family, but many of them include a barbecue, games, and patriotic decoration of some kind. Since we are here to make outside fun again, we want to make sure your Memorial Day goes off without a hitch by providing some simple tips and DIY ideas.

We’ve all been there…you’re throwing a party and you forget something major, causing you or a friend to have to run out at the very last minute and panic shop trying to find what it is you need. Avoid that hassle by preparing and making sure to have all the necessities before a single guest arrives at your house.

Perhaps the most important thing to have ready is the grill. Make sure to have all the propane and/or charcoal you need to keep the grill burning as long as necessary. Clean the grill beforehand as well, so you can start with a clean slate. If you are a grilling novice, maybe try it out a few times before the party to make sure you understand the best ways to use it and how long it will take to get things ready.

An easy way to complicate your day is to try to do too much with the food. Keep it simple with hamburgers, hot dogs, and chicken. Keep some veggie burgers on hand as well in case there are any vegetarians in attendance.

Since you are sticking to the basics, one way to kick things up a notch is to have an over the top condiment station. Cheeses, guacamole, hot sauces, pickles, onions, BBQ sauces, and salsa are just a few options to include.

Try things like fruit skewers, pasta salad, and baked beans for the sides, which require minimal time and preparation. If you want to take it a step further, you could make it a potluck and ask guests to provide the sides and the desserts. It would take a lot off your plate (no pun intended) and allow people to help the host out in their own way.

Use patriotic plates, napkins, and tablecloths to easily decorate your party. If you have kids, use craft time before the party to make things like pinwheels, painted stars on the lawn, wreaths, mason jar decorations, and more! A simple search on Pinterest will turn up hundreds of ideas.

Whether your party is for kids or not, lawn games are a great way to entertain your guests and keep the party going after the BBQ is over. Games like cornhole and Can Jam are classics, but might require some prep beforehand if you don’t already have the materials. If the weather permits, a water balloon toss would be great for the kids as would things like Twister, horseshoes, and a three-legged race.

As much fun as Memorial Day is, it’s important to remember the reason we have this day off to spend with friends and family. No words can every properly express our thanks to those who made the ultimate sacrifice to serve this country. We can only hope that the way we celebrate this day and the way we live every day can serve as a testament to our gratitude.

From all of us at Mosquito Joe, have a safe and happy Memorial Day! If you are hosting an outdoor party and want to protect your guests from mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks, call your local Mosquito Joe today to get on the schedule!
