From the Roanoke area of Virginia, Meredith Flora joined the Mosquito Joe marketing team in May of 2018. She leads the team in all of our philanthropic efforts and has a passion for giving back to the community. When she’s not at work, Meredith loves browsing Yelp, trying new restaurants and shopping for skincare products!

Now, let’s dive in deep and really get to know Meredith.

What led you to work for Mosquito Joe?

I was looking for an opportunity that allowed me to utilize all the skills I’d gained from prior experiences. The Marketing Specialist role with Mosquito Joe has given me the chance to do all the things I loved in my previous jobs while still challenging me to learn something new every day.

What is your favorite part about your position at Mosquito Joe?

It’s great to be able to champion franchisees through their public relations. It’s so rewarding to see franchise owners out in their communities. Whether it’s educating the public about outdoor pests and vector-borne disease, participating in local events or giving back through philanthropy, I enjoy being able to help franchisees promote their businesses.

What are the biggest strengths professionally that you bring to the Mosquito Joe team?

I’m a pretty quick learner. I feel like I’m a bit of chameleon and I can take on pretty much any task.

What’s your favorite Mosquito Joe tagline and why?

“Tired of being the main course?” I’m a total foodie – I’d much rather eat an entrée than be one!

If they made a movie about your life, who would you want to play you and why?

Definitely Jennifer Lawrence. As much as I’d like to believe we look similar, don’t think the likeness is there. But I think she’d capture my essence well since she’s laid-back and super cool.

If you could plan your ultimate vacation, where would you go?

My bucket list trip would be traveling through countries in the Mediterranean. Not only are the views absolutely gorgeous but the food looks incredible.

How do you like to spend your time outdoors?

With a beer in my hand! I like going to outdoor concerts, enjoy hanging out at the beach and grilling out with friends and family. A cold one goes great with all of those activities!

How attracted are mosquitoes to you?

Mosquitoes like me a little too much. I told them I’d rather just be friends, but they keep bugging me!

If you were shipwrecked, what three items would you want to land on shore with you?

A solar panel phone charger, my iPhone and headphones – I have hours of playlists downloaded on Spotify to keep me preoccupied!

This week we’d like to introduce you to one of the newest members of the Corporate staff, Dara Ormon. A Virginia native, Dara has just joined our team as Paralegal. She has always wanted to work in the legal field and has spent the last five years working as a paralegal and legal assistant. While doing so, she was also getting her B.S. in Criminal Justice and M.A. in Criminology from Old Dominion University. As a paralegal, Dara will be working closely with our finance and franchise sales departments to make sure everything is in order as we bring new franchise owners on board.

Here are some fun facts about Dara, so you can get to know her like we have!

What led you to work for Mosquito Joe?

Adulting, on LinkedIn. I was looking for a company/brand/business model where I really saw our values aligned. After a little research, I came in for the interview already so excited and impressed by the what I’d read about the company. Everyone I met in in leadership that day exceeded my expectations, and I’m just excited they picked me!

What is your favorite part about your position at Mosquito Joe?

I love how friendly, welcoming, and helpful everyone has been since the moment I arrived. I also love being a part of company that helps people live their best lives and support the dreams of those same people in owning their own businesses.

What are the biggest strengths professionally that you bring to the Mosquito Joe team?

How passionate, driven and excited I am about the paralegal life. I have a pretty extensive background in the legal community and I’m just excited to put it into practice with such a great team.

What’s your favorite Mosquito Joe tagline and why?

Outside is fun again. It reminds me of my carefree childhood days where I’m outside all day without a care in the world. Who wouldn’t want to recreate that memory?

If you could plan your ultimate vacation, where would you go?

Fashion week in Dubai! Riding camels and I can only imagine the amazing photos!

How do you like to spend your time outdoors?

I’ve recently gotten into hiking. I typically only really get a chance to hike on out of town weekend trips or when visiting my sister in Seattle, but I’ve seen some of the prettiest waterfalls and views on hiking adventures.

How attracted are mosquitoes to you?

We’ve been in a relationship now for as long as I can remember, but thanks to Mosquito Joe I can start putting some distance between us. It’s definitely for the better.

If you were shipwrecked, what three items would you want to land on shore with you?

All I need is Wilson! (Cast Away reference) and by Wilson, I mean a guy named Wilson with some very serious boat building and survival skills.

If you could invite three people to a party, dead or alive, who would they be and why?

My best friend Brittany makes every party memorable, Michael Jackson for music, and Dylan O’Brien for comic relief!

Meet a Joe: Leigh Hurst

*Occasionally we like to provide a blog post that will help you get to know Joe. From our technicians to our Corporate staff to our hardworking franchisees – we think our company is full of people you ought to know!*

This week we’d like to introduce you to a member of the Corporate staff, Leigh Hurst. A Norfolk native, Leigh joined Mosquito Joe in March as our Administrative Assistant. She brought with her years of customer service experience from the restaurant industry and even spent some time as a yoga instructor. Whether it’s coordinating events, keeping the kitchen stocked, helping our franchise partners across the country, or just managing the office in general, Leigh is integral to the success of Mosquito Joe.

Here are some fun facts about Leigh, so you can get to know her like we have!

What led you to work for Mosquito Joe?

I heard of a position that was available here, came in for an interview, and thoroughly enjoyed every one I met. Plus, the office is a pretty cool space.

What is your favorite part about your position at Mosquito Joe?

Every day there is some thing different. Some days it is about the snacks, but most days, it is the people I get to interact with.

What are the biggest strengths professionally that you bring to the Mosquito Joe team?

I’ve worked in customer service since day one at my first job. I thoroughly enjoy helping others and meeting people.

What’s your favorite Mosquito Joe tagline and why?

“Itching is so last season”…well isn’t it?!

If they made a movie about your life, who would you want to play you and why?

Natalie Portman, she can pull off a shaved head.

If you could plan your ultimate vacation, where would you go?

The list “where I wouldn’t go” is much shorter than the list “where I would go”. The ultimate vacation is when there is no end to exploring. Bouncing from country to country exploring sights, food and building friendships while submersed in different cultures is a dream.

How do you like to spend your time outdoors?

It depends on the season! Summer is my favorite time of the year, so any and every thing outdoors. Winter out West is beyond beautiful, especially while snowboarding. Fall and Spring in the East are beautiful times to watch the change in the seasons from Mother Nature.

How attracted are mosquitoes to you?

I was born and raised in Churchland/Portsmouth, VA…by mosquitoes.

If you were shipwrecked, what three items would you want to land on shore with you?

The ship, my water filter, and ice cream.

If you could invite three people to a party, dead or alive, who would they be and why?

Dolly Parton, Neil deGrasse Tyson, and Caitlin Cimini. Once you google who they are and watch about 30 seconds of them speaking, you would want them at the party too!

Meet a Joe: Sharon Lerche

This week we’d like to introduce you to a member of the Corporate staff, Sharon Lerche. Sharon joined Mosquito Joe after a long career with Taco Bell, 29 years to be exact! She moved from a Restaurant General Manager to a Training Project Manager in charge of making sure training was happening properly in the 25 Taco Bells in her area and training new managers. Mixing her passion for service with extensive experience makes the role a perfect fit.

As the Operations Administrative Assistant, she not only dedicates her experience to the overall organization and efficiency of the operations team at Mosquito Joe, but also to the day-to-day success of our franchisees across the country. We are so excited to have Sharon in the MoJo family!

Here are some fun facts about Sharon, so you can get to know her like we have! Welcome, Sharon!

What do you love most about your job?

I love that my job requires me to work with everyone at some point. Every day I do something different with new challenges, which I am excited to conquer.

What are the biggest strengths professionally that you bring to the Mosquito Joe team?

I am the biggest cheerleader around (maybe because I always wanted to be one in a former life). I always try to stay positive and find solutions. I am also extremely organized and efficient. Once I learn the job, I can get a lot accomplished in a short period of time.

What is your favorite Mosquito Joe tagline and why?

“If you decide not to call Mosquito Joe, save this card for swatting.” This shows that we do not take ourselves too seriously and the company is about fun.

How do you like to spend your time outdoors?

Every February we go skiing in West Virginia, I love to lay in the sun next to a swimming pool for when I get too hot. I love to work in my flower beds: planting, weeding, watching stuff grow.

If you could plan your ultimate vacation, where would you go?

I have had several “ultimate vacations.” I have traveled to Alaska and seen whales swim right by my room. I rode in a helicopter over Hawaiian volcanoes and danced at a luau. I rode in a gondola in Venice, visited Mary’s last home in Ephesus, Turkey, and bought roasted lamb on the street in Athens, Greece. My next adventure will be a river cruise starting in New Orleans and ending in Memphis this September. The only thing that would make all these trips even better would be if my kids and grandkids could have come as well.

How attracted are mosquitoes to you?

Mosquitoes absolutely LOVE me. I must have some awesome CO2.
