Honoring Those Who Have Served: Happy Veteran’s Day

Post of Honoring Those Who Have Served: Happy Veteran's Day

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in the First World War, then known as “the Great War.” Commemorated as Armistice Day beginning the following year, November 11th became a holiday in the United States in 1938. In the aftermath of World War II and the Korean War, Armistice Day became Veterans Day, a holiday dedicated to American veterans of all wars.

Being based out of Virginia Beach, VA, we are surrounded by those who are serving or have served in the military on a daily basis. Many of our customers are veterans and since we started franchising over past year, many of our franchisees are veterans. In fact, about one third of our new locations in 2013 were opened by veterans from various military branches. When someone joins the armed forces, they dedicate themselves to give back and protect the country they love. We take great pride in helping veterans find new purpose in giving back to their community by using the same skill set the military gave them to own their own business.  We certainly realize that keeping our neighborhoods mosquito free is on a much smaller scale than defending our country, but we’re honored to help them transition to not only civilian jobs, but going into business for themselves.

There are times when the words “Thank you” don’t seem big enough to encompass the gratitude we hold for people and their actions. Happy Veteran’s Day to all those who have served and continue to serve. You are in our thoughts today, on Veteran’s Day, and every day.
