Meet a Joe: Jacqui Sienkiewicz

*Occasionally we like to provide a blog post that will help you get to know Joe. From our technicians to our Corporate staff to our hardworking franchisees – we think our company is full of people you ought to know!*

This week we’d like to introduce you to a member of the Corporate staff, Jacqui Sienkiewicz. A Hampton Roads native, Jacqui just joined our team this month as a Search Engine Marketing Specialist. She graduated from Longwood University (Go Lancers!) with an English Degree, and has  worked in digital marketing for the past five years with a focus on SEO & PPC campaigns. She will be working with our Mosquito Joe franchise owners across the country to maintain their websites and overall digital presence.

Here are some fun facts about Jacqui, so you can get to know her like we have!

What led you to work for Mosquito Joe?

I was looking for a position where I could truly contribute to the company and make a difference. I also wanted to find a great team environment. When I interviewed with MoJo, I knew I had found a job with both. Plus, everyone here is genuinely nice – bonus!

What is your favorite part about your position at Mosquito Joe?

I get to be analytical with data but also creative in the way that the data is presented and in how the work is performed.

What are the biggest strengths professionally that you bring to the Mosquito Joe team?

I always want to keep learning and growing professionally. I love finding out about all aspects of how Mosquito Joe works and then determining the way I can best contribute to future success.

What’s your favorite Mosquito Joe tagline and why?

“Should You Decide Not To Call Us, Save This Card For Swatting” …it’s funny AND useful!

If they made a movie about your life, who would you want to play you and why?

Tom Hanks in a wig. Tom Hanks is down to earth and charming. Plus, he can play anyone.

If you could plan your ultimate vacation, where would you go?

Tokyo! The art, the fashion, the technology – I think it would be like visiting another planet.

How do you like to spend your time outdoors?

I know it’s hard to tell, but I actually spend a ton of time at the beach during the summer (SPF 100, y’all). I also enjoy riding my bike on the Elizabeth River Trail and exploring local parks.

How attracted are mosquitoes to you?

As Lloyd Christmas, from Dumb & Dumber, would say …”they like me ahh-lawt”

If you were shipwrecked, what three items would you want to land on shore with you?

Sunscreen, husband, iPhone. (Yes, in that order). Sunscreen because I’d die two days in without it. Husband because someone has to entertain me. iPhone because something has to entertain me when my husband needs a nap.

If you could invite three people to a party, dead or alive, who would they be and why?

Oprah because I love everything about her. Edgar Allan Poe because I studied him a lot throughout college, and my Mama, because someone has to back up the fact that I just met Oprah & EAP!

Celebrate the 4th in a Mosquito Joe City!

If you are as eager to get your patriot on as we are, you don’t have much longer to wait. It’s practically celebration time! Independence Day is a federal holiday we’ve been celebrating every year since America adopted the Declaration of Independence way back in 1776.  With July quickly approaching, it’s almost time to rep’ those true colors and get rollin’ with the red, white, and blue!

Mosquito Joe vans will be out in full force in communities across the country, working to protect families from mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks during their 4th of July celebrations. But did you know that some of our Mosquito Joe service areas are also home to some of the country’s top-notch Fourth of July celebrations? Here are a few of the best:

Charleston, South CarolinaCharleston, SC

Patriots Point 4th of July Blast is one of the biggest Independence Day celebrations in the country. Watch the elaborate fireworks show while hanging out on the historic USS Yorktown’s Flight Deck. This bash is for those of you who want to party shoreside and dance to the live beach music band! Tickets do sell quickly, so if it’s already sold out, keep this in mind for next year.

Williamsburg, VA

You might expect Williamsburg to be at the top of the list, seeing as it’s one of America’s favorite historical destinations. The 4th of July Fireworks celebration lights up this 18th century city every year. Join in on some old time fun, listen to live music, admire the U.S. state flags, and end the night watching a beautiful display of fireworks.

Washington, D.C.Washington, D.C.

If you’re planning to visit or are already located in our nation’s capital for Independence Day, you would be silly to miss the numerous events planned all around D.C. to celebrate the date of America’s birth! Watch the annual Washington Nationals game; cheer for the land of the free during the Independence Day Parade; eat, shop, and dance at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival inside the National Mall; sway your hips to the Beach Boys and John Stamos at the Capitol Fourth Concert; and top it all off by watching the notable display of fireworks from the lawn of the Capitol Building.

Miami, Florida

Celebrate America’s Birthday Bash in Miami from 10am to the end of the 9:00pm fireworks at Bayfront Park. Watch your kids hang in the Family Fun Zone or take a walk through the Budweiser Beer Garden while listening to live music, playing games, and quenching your thirst with Budweiser on draft. Stay for the best fireworks in South Florida!

New Orleans, LouisianaNew Orleans, LA

New Orleans is among the country’s hottest 4th of July celebration locations. Celebrate the 4th aboard the Paddlewheeler Creole Queen, eating, party-hopping room to room, and watching the fireworks display, all while cruising along the Mississippi River. There are also concerts, food trucks, seafood fests, and more from July 3rd to July 5th. What could be better than celebrating the 4th for three days?!

Nashville, Tennessee

Honor the 4th by attending Music City’s July 4th celebration in Downtown Nashville. This year’s lineup features the popular country star, Chris Young! Enjoy water slides, food vendors, and tons of family fun during the entire week of July 4th in Nashville and you will not regret it!

St. Louis, Missouri

Fair St. Louis is an Independence Day bash that is fun for all ages, and it takes place from July 2nd-July 4th in Forest Park. There are local artists and merchandise vendors to check out on The Fairway, rides and interactive activities for families, live performances of 3 Doors Down, Akon, Dan & Shay, Jake Owen, etc., parades, and a nationally recognized fireworks show. This one sounds tough to beat!

While these are some of the biggest Independence Day celebrations in the country, we know many of you will be staying local to host parties and cookouts in your own backyard. If that’s the case, be sure to protect your party and your guests from pesky (and potentially dangerous) mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks. Keep the focus on the hot dogs, s’mores, and sparklers and let us take care of the swatting. Give your local Mosquito Joe a call for a free quote and to get on the schedule today!

Tailoring Your Yard for a Swat Free Summer

Here at Mosquito Joe, we’re pet owners, moms, dads, homeowners and outdoor lovers just like you. We understand the thought process that surrounds bringing a new product into your environment because at some point we’ve all been there as well. Sometimes people who hear about us have a lot of questions because the service just seems too simple to be true, or they wonder why it hasn’t been around longer to help get rid of mosquitoes. One of the most common questions we get about our services is whether or not the products we use are safe. We wanted to provide some information to help you understand the various products we use so you can feel confident that you’re doing the right thing to protect family and friends from mosquitoes, fleas and ticks.

Barrier Spray Treatment

Our main barrier treatment product is a synthetic form of pyrethrins called pyrethroids. Pyrethrins are the natural byproduct of the Chrysanthemum flower. Synthetic pyrethroids have a similar chemical structure as the pyrethrins, and are used in numerous commercial products such as household insecticides, pet shampoos and sprays, and even lice shampoos – so you are probably already using it if you’re a pet owner.

We spray this product on shrubs, low-lying trees, your foundation, mulch beds, etc. Generally we don’t spray your grass, unless you’re having a specific issue with fleas. All chemicals we use are registered with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). You, your kids, and your pets can be outside again resuming normal activities as soon as the treatment has had a chance to dry, typically about 30-45 minutes, without the annoyance of mosquitoes.

All-Natural Treatment

For those who prefer all-natural options, we also have products made with rosemary and peppermint oils or concentrated garlic. These products provide knockdown with residual mosquito control, or in the case of garlic, repellency. They can be used around water and do not affect birds, fish, dogs, cats or other animals. The all-natural garlic option provides 14 days of protection with each treatment.

Not Your Average Joe

We pride ourselves on standing out from the rest when it comes to mosquito control. Above all else, trust that each treatment is tailored to your property for maximum effect. It may even include a combination of both synthetic and all-natural treatments. For example, a majority of your shrubs may be sprayed with our standard barrier treatment, while vegetable gardens, ponds and pollinating plants with our all-natural product. A certified technician, trained and knowledgeable in the treatments being applied and the pests they’re targeting, will be applying your treatment and available for any questions.

For a visual of what we do, check out this video showing how our technicians tailor your yard to be less swatting and more fun. Then, call your local Mosquito Joe for a free quote and more information on how we can help make outside fun again for you and your family.

National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day

National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day is observed each year on April 30.  This day was created as a way to raise awareness for thousands of pets that are waiting for adoption from the shelters. According to the ASPCA, approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year. The Mosquito Joe family feels pretty strongly about our rescues (Check out this article about Mosquito Joe of Wayne and their partnership with local shelters) so we decided to highlight some of the corporate staff members who rescued their furbabies.

National Adopt a Shelter Pet DayIn September 2016, a good friend of mine knew a woman that had just found a litter of kittens near her house and was working with Poquoson Animal Welfare Sanctuary (PAWS) to find them homes.  We met up with her and the litter of kittens and immediately fell in love with one of the boys and his only sister who we named Murphy and Grace, named after a couple of  important names in Naval history.  At just 11 weeks old, they came to live with us in early November 2016.  Murphy is a feisty one (he demands an ice cube to chase every time we’re near the freezer) while Grace is more quiet and reserved, but both are incredibly sweet, cuddly, and perfect companions! ~ Nick Sell, Franchise Business Coach

National Adopt a Shelter Pet DayBoth Morgan and Kingston are rescued. Morgan (my German Shepherd mix) was about to go to a shelter and I just couldn’t help but love her excitement, enthusiasm and love for people. Kingston was the last of a litter in the shelter, a little sickly and infected with parasites. I was looking for a companion for Morgan because she loves playing with little dogs and when I saw him,I knew he was meant to join our family. Today, he’s happy and healthy and a big dog in a little dog’s body. ~ Jayme Sabo, Director of Marketing

National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day National Adopt a Shelter Pet DayWhen a family moves away and can’t bring their cats with them, you get the best two fur brothers on this planet. Oliver (Brown stripped) and Tucker (Gray) were adopted from the Virginia Beach SPCA. After doing the math, I believe their Halloween kitties, which also explains their orange eyes. ~ Kyle Jones, Graphic Designer

Chevy the Resuced Monster

We decided on a rescue because there are so many great animals out there that end up in shelters or rescues to no fault of their own (i.e. someone’s pet had an unintentional litter, someone moved and their new landlord didn’t allow the pet). We worked with an incredible organization (shout out to the Southeast German Shepherd Rescue) to find our buddy Chevy. They work hard to pair dogs with “fur-ever” homes by matching up owner needs/personalities with the dogs. Chevy was a perfect fit for us. I’ve never had such a loyal dog with such a personality. ~ Angela Paules, VP of Marketing

Silly Lilly Billy Goat the Rescue Dog

8 years ago my then fiance and I decided to get a dog and knew we wanted to rescue because of all the great animals who needed homes. I was at work on a Friday afternoon scrolling through pictures at the shelter when I saw this girl’s face. The next morning I had him driving us downtown to pick her up.  I had no other explanation other than she was meant to be mine. She has been my best girl ever since and is now her human brother’s best companion (most of the time). Our Lilly has the quirkiest personality and we love her so much. ~ Julie Green, Marketing Manager

If you have a rescue baby you want to keep protected this year, don’t forget our services take care of fleas and ticks too. Always follow your veterinarian’s recommendations for flea and tick preventative medicines, but we can be an added layer of defense in your own backyard. Thanks for reading about our fur kiddos, we’d love to hear about yours! Buzz in and share our pictures on our Facebook page! And of course, if you’re thinking of adding to your family with a feline or dog companion, always consider adopting!

Meet a Joe: Amanda Liddell

*Occasionally we like to provide a blog post that will help you get to know Joe. From our technicians to our Corporate staff to our hardworking franchisees – we think our company is full of people you ought to know!*

This week we’d like to introduce you to a member of the Corporate staff, Amanda Liddell. Amanda joined Mosquito Joe after graduating from Old Dominion University in December of 2016 with two business degrees; one in marketing and another in business analytics. Continually working throughout her college career in digital marketing, Amanda gained experience in analytics, social media, marketing materials, and client relationships. As the Search Engine Marketing (SEM) Specialist, Amanda works with the digital team on all Mosquito Joe franchisee websites, search engine optimization, pay per click campaigns, digital advertising, and more! Her work is vital to the day-to-day support of our franchise owners nationwide, making sure they are well represented across the world wide web. Some of her other hobbies include Marvel, DIY projects, and travel.

Here are some fun facts about Amanda, so you can get to know her like we have. Welcome, Amanda!

What led you to work for Mosquito Joe?

When interviewing with the company, I instantly felt a connection with the employees and was comfortable around them. During my time with Kevin, the CEO, I could hear in his voice how excited he was for the company’s future. He didn’t just explain where he wanted to be in 5 years, he explained his vision and just how he was going to make it happen. With help from his associates, Kevin has created a specific atmosphere that is rare to find. He challenges you to be innovative and work hard, but also to have fun while doing it. It is reasons like this that made me choose Mosquito Joe.

What is your favorite part about your position at Mosquito Joe?

My favorite part of my position is the optimization of franchisee websites. The management team has so many great ideas, I’m excited to implement those ideas to see the positive effects they will have down the road.

What is your favorite Mosquito Joe tagline and why?

My favorite tagline is “Itching for a solution?” As someone who is personally allergic to mosquitoes, I am always looking for new ways to stop the itching! Once mosquito season hits, I usually find myself inside just so I don’t have to deal with them. Now that I know about this solution, I can’t wait to get back in my pool and enjoy the weather.

How do you like to spend your time outdoors?

Since we live near the beach, I love to catch some rays of sunshine whenever I can! Whether its laying out on the beach, biking across the city, or going for a hike.

How attracted are mosquitoes to you?

If there was a scale of 1-10…. I would have to say 15. When it is mosquito season, it seems like I can’t walk outside without getting bit!

If you were shipwrecked, what three items would you want to land on shore with you?

My record collection, hand crank generator, and a tropical plant that produces fruit. People always joke about private islands… being stranded wouldn’t be ideal but who wouldn’t love to be surrounded by music, fruit and the big blue ocean!
